Wales kept their hopes of qualification for Euro 2020 alive with a draw over Slovakia on Thursday evening, setting them up with a must-win tie against the qualifying group leaders Croatia.
Ryan Giggs’ men are underdogs for the tie at 15/8, with the World Cup runners-up at 13/10, but under the lights in Cardiff, anything can happen.
Wales could see Aaron Ramsey return to the side following a knock that kept him out of the Slovakia game, while the Croatian side will see a host of familiar names, including Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic and Ivan Perisic.
The Welsh lost the first leg in Croatia in a tight 2-1 game and we expect another close encounter as the Welsh look to move ahead of Slovakia and Hungary. With three games left their dream of a second successive European Championship is still alive.
To qualify, they’ll still be looking to win their last two games against Azerbaijan and Hungary, but they have a real opportunity to cause Croatia problems with the likes of Gareth Bale, Daniel James and Ramsey in their side.
Bale will of course be the man to watch. He’s a man that can turn a game within a few seconds and a 1-0 win and Bale to score for Wales looks good value at 22/1 with Paddy Power.
It’ll be down to Dejan Lovren and Domagoj Vida to keep him quiet, while the pace of James will certainly cause problems against an ageing side.
Of course, Ramsey will have to work hard in the middle of the park to prevent Modrić from getting a grip of the game. He’s been playing well for Juventus and we expect the Welsh to dig deep in this one.
While Croatia are rightly favourites, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Giggs’ men conquer here. The Croatians have drawn on the road to Azerbaijan and lost to Hungary. At 15/8 we’d certainly have a punt on them.
