When it comes to England vs Germany, there’s no such thing as a friendly. While no competition is on the line, Phil Neville’s Lionesses go up against Germany on Saturday evening at a sold out Wembley.
As many as 90,000 fans could make their way through the turnstiles to cheer on the World Cup Semi Finalists in what will be a landmark moment for the women’s game in England, and perhaps even globally.
The odds are being offered fairly evenly, with not much between the sides ranked seventh (England) and second (Germany). Both are priced at 7/5 with Paddy Power, but with home advantage we thing it’s just edging towards England. The draw can be backed at 11/5.
Ultimately it could come down to who handles the pressure better, although both have players at huge European clubs that are used to being in such a spotlight.
Both Ellen White and Toni Duggan are back in the England squad following injury, with the latter a key player. The Atletico Madrid striker is a real star of the team and the German defence will have to be at their best to stop her.
However, the Germans are the second best side in the world and England will have to be much improved in comparison to their 1-0 win over Portugal in their last game.
Captain Alexandra Popp nets at a ratio of one in two and Dzsenifer Marozsan is potent from the midfield.
It will take a monumental effort from England. Germany are the safer bet at 7/5, but the fixture’s importance could really see that determination favour the Lionnesses at 7/5. It’s a tough one to call, we could certainly see an England win and BTTS. That’s where our money is heading.
