Chris Weidman will be stepping up a weight decision in the early hours of Saturday morning as he takes on the undefeated light heavyweight Dominick Reyes at UFC on ESPN 6 in Boston.
The 35-year-old is an outsider in the contest, having lost four of his last five fights, while Reyes brings into the fight an unblemished record and a pricetag of 4/7 with the bookmakers.
At 6/4 with William Hill, a win for Weidman isn’t beyond the realms of possibility, having had time to regroup and prepare after almost 12 months out of the Octagon.
Weidman has said that he will have less of a burden in this fight, without the need to shed any weight, so he’ll be looking to use those power punches, which have earned him six of his 14 victories.
Reyes also prefers the knockout, and with Weidman having been knocked out in all four of his defeats, it’s looking likely that is the way it could go. Californian Reyes likes to hit early, and we’d be surprised if he doesn’t go for that once more against the naturally lighter man.
Our top tip would certainly be a first round Reyes knockout, and you’ll find some nice odds on it too.
