Australian Open 2020 Betting Odds Day 1
- Roger Federer to beat Steve Johnson 3-1 at 5/1 with William Hill
- Kyle Edmund to beat Dusan Lajovic in straight sets at 10/3 with William Hill
Federer & Serena the Ones to Watch on Day 1
Day one of the Australian Open sees a number of huge stars across men’s and women’s singles looking to get their campaign off to a perfect start.
With the bushfires raging, it’s going to be a difficult tournament in harsh conditions, as all eyes turn to see just how the athletes, fans and organisers cope.
There are some huge ties in the first round, with Federer, Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka all playing, while Venus Williams takes on the young Coco Gauff once again in what could be the tie of the day.
Below you’ll find all our betting tips for Day One of the Australian Open 2020…
Venus Williams vs Coco Gauff Betting Odds
Less than 12 months ago Coco Gauff stunned legend Venus Williams at Wimbledon, in what looked to be a changing of the guard.
The 15-year-old beat Williams in straight sets and is favourite once again with Paddy Power pricing her at 8/15.
Venus looks good value at 7/5. She won’t want to suffer once again, and at 7/2 Venus to win and both players to win a set looks a really reasonable bet.
Gauff will want to kick on though. She reached the Second Round in the US Open and will want to keep improving results. She’s a special player and Gauff 2-0 could be worth a punt at 13/10 as she looks to stamp her authority on the tournament.

Roger Federer vs Steve Johnson Betting Odds
Roger Federer just continues to be a real superstar of the sport and at 38-years-old insists he should be anything but favourite for the 2020 Australian Open.
He is a huge favourite to pass through the first round however, having never previously dropped a set against American Steve Johnson.
He’s 1/3 with Coral to win the First Round tie in straight sets, but Johnson is in good form having won a Challenger title in Bendigo in recent weeks.
That makes the 3-1 victory at 5/1 with William Hill a very appealing bet. It would be a huge shock if the Swiss legend didn’t make it through and it would be a brace punt to back the 12/1 Coral are offering on Johnson to win.
Kyle Edmund v Dusan Lajovic Betting Odds
With Andy Murray withdrawing from the Australian Open, Kyle Edmund carries Britain’s hopes in the men’s singles, alongside Dan Evans.
He’s heavy favourite in his First Round matchup against Dusan Lajovic and is priced at 1/2 with Paddy Power.
He’s playing well having reached the Auckland Open Quarter Final in the build-up to the first Grand Slam of the year and straight sets is an appealing punt with William Hill at 10/3.
Lajovic will be tricky though. Seeded 24th he presents a tough challenge and at 6/4 could pull a surprise result.
Edmund 3-1 is at 3/1 with Paddy Power, meanwhile if you think the Serbian has his number, you perhaps may not shy away from 3-2 priced at 5/1 with the same bookie.
It’s one that has the opportunity to go either way, but we fancy Edmund to come out strongly and take this one in straight sets.
