The World Championship is back and so is Michael van Gerwen to defend his title. No wonder then that he is 5/4 with Ladbrokes to triumph once again. The Dutchman is unlikely to have it all his own way, however, with Gerwyn Price offered at 5/1 on William Hill and fellow competitors Peter Wright and Rob Cross at 14/1 and 16/1 on Unibet respectively.
This tournament will also be darts stalwart Raymond van Barneveld’s last one as a professional, bringing an end to a career that will have spanned five decades. Though, it’s unlikely he will leave triumphantly, rated at 250/1 on Skybet.
Key Battle to Look Out For
Undoubtedly, the spotlight will be on van Gerwen as he attempts to win his fourth world championship in seven years with his first opponent Jelle Klaasen or Kevin Burness unlikely to cause him too much trouble.
Favourite van Gerwen and contender Gerwyn Price head into the tournament in good form with the Dutchman having won his fifth PDC Players title and Price the Grand Slam of Darts, and, it’s looking like these two will be the ones to beat with those two offered at 9/2 to be the finalists on Betfair.
Interestingly, Mensur Suljovic is offered at 28/1 on Skybet to be a finalist alongside van Gerwen. Could be a punt for the gambler.
