It’s Betfair Chase day at Haydock on Saturday, as the national hunt season starts to ramp up as we head into the busy festive period.
This year’s Betfair Chase looks a hot renewal with last season’s winner Lostintranslation heading the betting and the 2017 and 2018 winner, Bristol De Mai, the current second favourite.
Chuck into the mix the King George winner Clan Des Obeaux and we’ve got all the makings of an absolute cracker.
After our 20/1 Odds Picks winner at Cheltenham last Saturday, fingers crossed for this week’s selection which you can find below.
Our Top Odds Pick – Clan Des Obeaux (15:00) – 5/2 at bet365
Clan Des Obeaux is a dual King George winner who was last seen down the field in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham in March.
Connections have said that the Festival is off the agenda this season so he’ll be fully primed for this before heading to Kempton on Boxing Day for another shot at the King George.
We’re shocked he’s currently third in the betting and are confident of a big performance.
Our Extra Odds Pick – Umbrigado (13:50) – Each-Way – 9/1 at bet365
Umbrigado represents the in-form David Pipe yard and featured on this card last year when running 5th over 3 miles.
He failed to build on that performance in two subsequent runs though and was last seen mid-division in the Martin Pipe at the Cheltenham Festival.
Still unexposed and with Fergus Gillard taking 7lbs off, he looks sure to be in the mix in this wide-open race.
Our Long Shot – Kalashnikov (14:25) – Each Way – 16/1 at Unibet
Kalashnikov makes his return to hurdles after a disappointing time over fences and carries top weight in this contest.
This is his first run over the smaller obstacles since his 2nd place in the Supreme Novices’ at the Cheltenham Festival in 2018.
The return to hurdling could spark a return to form and if he retains any of the ability that he showed in the Supreme, then he looks over-priced here.
