The first WGC event of the year may be taking place in Florida, rather than its usual Mexico location, but the world’s best are still out in force.
The Concession Golf Club presents a much different test to Mexico’s Club de Golf Chapultepec.
Wider fairways mean that tight approach play will arguably be more important than accuracy and length off the tee.
And like most Jack Nicklaus-designed courses, the closer you get to the green, the more difficult it is.
Which is just how we like it!
Our Top Odds Pick – Jon Rahm E/W – 10/1 at bet365 (1/5 of the odds, first 7)
Rahm has secured top-ten finishes in the six of the last seven tournaments he has played in, including fifth place at last week’s Genesis Invitational.
What also bodes well is that his best round of the week was his last one, a five under par 66.
Rahm also has some familiarity with The Concession Golf Club, having played there as an amateur in 2015, which may be useful on a course that is expected to provide a stern test.
The Spaniard also tops the Par 5 Strokes Gained list, based on a player’s last 24 rounds.
And with four Par 5s at Concession this week, the ability to take full advantage could go a long way to deciding who comes out on top.
Our Long Shot – Viktor Hovland E/W – 22/1 at Unibet (1/5 of the odds, first 6)
Another player in magnificent form is Norwegian ace Viktor Hovland.
The 23-year-old has finished in the top six in five out of his last six tournaments, winning one.
Many of those results were achieved on unfamiliar courses, which is a great sign ahead of a visit to a venue hosting a PGA Tour event for the very first time.
And in his fledgling career, Hovland has shown he can hang with the big boys and then some, so a star-studded field will hold no fears for the ice-cool Norwegian.
