Saturday brings us the traditional jumps finale at Sandown with some cracking action to get stuck into before the national hunt crew chill out for a few days.
With a Grade 1 and two Grade 2’s to enjoy, it’s set to be a competitive afternoon and we’ve cast our expert eye over the card to pick out our two best bets.
Read on to see our top Odds Picks including a huge 33/1 fancy in the bet365 Gold Cup.
Our Top Odds Pick – Sceau Royal (15:05) – 3/1 at Betfair
All eyes will be on the return of Altior and the Champion Chase winner Put The Kettle On, but we’re siding with Sceau Royal to do a number on them both.
He’s been an excellent servant for connections through the years, over both hurdles and fences, and he showed he was as good as ever when he saw off Champ in the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury in February.
He looked set to go close in the Champion Chase against Put The Kettle On – he was still travelling well when he was almost brought down three fences out.
Compensation awaits here though and he looks excellent value against the current top two in the betting.
Our Long Shot – Bob Mahler (15:40) – 33/1 at bet365
Bob Mahler flew home to win the Edinburgh National at Musselburgh last February and has hinted that a return to the winners enclosure could be on the way once more.
He was still in the mix when he was brought down three fences from home in the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival, and then followed that up with a solid 4th in the West Wales National at Ffos Las.
He’s now 3lbs below his winning mark at Musselburgh and will appreciate the better ground here – he looks set to run a big race in a wide-open-looking contest.
