We’ve barely recovered from our Cheltenham buzz but for horse racing fans, this weekend means just one thing – the flat is back.
All eyes will be on Doncaster and the traditional flat season opener of the Lincoln on Saturday, and then there’s some international flavour later in the afternoon with the Dubai World Cup.
Sure, it’s ‘only’ a measly $12 million on offer at Meydan – it’s a shock that anyone is interested at all – but 14 runners are set to go post in one of the most prestigious and lucrative flat races of the season.
And because we’re such nice guys, we’ve got our top Odds Picks for both Doncaster and Meydan below including a juicy 25/1 fancy in the Lincoln.
Our Top Odds Pick – Jesus’ Team (16:50 Meydan) – 6/1 at Paddy Power
It may not be the highest quality renewal but with such a massive prize pool on offer, you can be sure that this year’s Dubai World Cup will be as competitive as ever.
We’re siding with Jesus’ Team who has chased home the high-class Knicks Go twice in the last six months with an impressive victory at Gulfstream Park in-between those two efforts.
Last time out he put in a career-best performance to finish 2nd to Knicks Go in the Pegasus World Cup, finding for pressure up the straight after being forced wide turning into the stretch.
We expect him to track the leaders, look to pounce up the straight, and hopefully land the win.
Our Long Shot – Ouzo (E/W) (15:10 Doncaster) – 25/1 at Coral
With a name like Ouzo we just had to give this one a shot…
He put in a career-best effort when last seen landing a large-field handicap over a mile at York in October and has conditions to suit here.
Still on a competitive-looking handicap mark, Ouzo has also run well following a break before so there should be no concerns over his race fitness.
In a wide-open-looking race he looks to offer excellent each-way value with several bookmakers offering 5 and 6 places on the race.
