Punchestown Festival Day Three – Odds Picks

The top class jumps racing action just keeps on rolling this week with day three of the Punchestown Festival on Thursday willing us to get our teeth stuck into.

Thursday’s feature race is the Grade 1 Stayers’ Hurdle where Gavin Cromwell’s Flooring Porter is looking to add to his Cheltenham Stayers’ crown.

We’ve cast our expert eye over the Punchestown card and you can check out our top Odds Picks below including a tasty 14/1 fancy.

Our Top Odds Pick – Ronald Pump (17:25) – 6/1 at Coral

Ronald Pump to win the 17:25 at Punchestown

Ronald Pump was 2nd in the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in 2020 but missed this year’s renewal due to injury.

He’s back in action now and offering some cracking value against Flooring Porter who landed this season’s Stayers’ at Cheltenham.

Trained by Matthew Smith, Ronald Pump was last seen going down by just half a length to Honeysuckle in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle over 2 mile and 4 furlongs.

We all know what Honeysuckle has done since then and in 3rd that day was Beacon Edge, who has since won the Grade 2 Boyne Hurdle before finishing 4th behind Flooring Porter at Cheltenham.

Ronald Pump goes well fresh and has conditions to suit here – if he can run to the best of his ability, then he’s sure to go very close.

Our Long Shot – Voix Du Reve (16:15) – 14/1 at bet365

Voix Du Reve (Each Way) in the 16:15 at Punchestown

Voix Du Reve showed some smart form when trained by Willie Mullins including when winning the 2 mile Grade 1 Novices Chase here in 2019.

Now trained in Scotland by Ian Jardine, he’s been kept busy over hurdles and on the flat but put in a cracking effort at Ayr two weeks ago over fences when finishing 3rd despite giving his rivals over a stone in the weights.

He’s top weight here off a mark of 149 but Jordan Gainsford is an eye-catching jockey booking with his 7lb claim and he looks primed for a big run in a wide-open-looking race.
