Our Top Pick – Matthew Wolff to win – 18/1 at bet365
One of the PGA Tour’s most star-studded fields of the year will take to the course this week in Las Vegas.
And despite Dustin Johnson’s withdrawal after a positive COVID-19 test, 31 of the top 40 players in the world still remain to fight it out in the desert.
One of those is Matthew Wolff, who is bang in form after a pair of second-place finishes in his last two outings.
At last week’s Shriners Open, he shot a hugely impressive -23, including an incredible -10 third round.
And after finishing second in the US Open, the man from California has truly announced himself on the world stage.
As one of the biggest hitters on the PGA Tour he should relish a long Shadow Creek course.
He should also benefit from playing last week in Vegas, as long as he hasn’t spent all his free time at the craps tables!
Our Extra Pick – Ian Poulter to finish in the Top 20 – 11/4 at Paddy Power
Lost in the slipstream of Tyrell Hatton’s Wentworth win last week was a gutsy performance from Ian Poulter.
Halfway through his opening round he looked more likely to withdraw than contend, as back spasms almost ruined his day.
But he gutted it out to shoot -3, following it up with three more under par rounds to finish fifth, at -13.
That result was no fluke either, as Poulter had finished tied-sixth the week before, at the Scottish Open.
A journey to Vegas won’t have done him any favours, but strangely enough it would probably have been more comfortable than his car journey from Scotland to Surrey last week!
So Poulter should arrive at Shadow Creek refreshed and ready to contend for the third tournament running.
Our Long Shot – Abraham Ancer to Finish in the Top Five – 10/1 at Betfair
Mexican hotshot Abraham Ancer showed some serious firepower at last week’s Shriner’s Open, shooting -5 or better in all of his rounds on the way to fifth place.
He also ranked fifth in driving accuracy, which is a good sign ahead of a tougher test at Shadow Creek.
So Abraham could very well be the “Ancer” this week!
