Bolshoi Ballet has been slashed for the Epsom Derby in June, after a commanding performance in the P.W. McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown.
The two-length victory was trainer Aidan O’Brien’s 11th in the Derby trial, and he also knows a thing or two about winning the big race itself, having saddled Galileo and High Chaparral to Epsom success.
Bolshoi Ballet was available at 20/1 prior to this weekend, but after an eye-catching run, the bookies have reacted accordingly.
And he is now 10/1 second-favourite for the Epsom spectacular.
O’Brien said: “You’d be delighted with him as he only ran on soft ground (last season) and will have learned a lot today. He’ll probably come back here for the Derrinstown if all goes well with him. He’s straightforward and, while you’re never sure, he should get a mile and a half. He goes to the line well.”
O’Brien also saddles up the horse at the top of the market, with High Definition available at a best-priced 7/2.
And the highly-rated son of Galileo will look to justify ante-post favouritism in his next outing.
OBrien said:“High Definition will go for one of the Derby trials. We didn’t want to give him two runs before the Derby, but we thought this horse would be able for two. He’s in full work and we’re very happy with him.”
