Liverpool v Chelsea – Tuchel To Expose Klopp’s Makeshift Defence

There’s nothing quite like a bro-mance, right fellas?!

Thursday night signals the 15th meeting between German powerhouses Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel, and the third at Anfield.

Previous encounters have come between Dortmund and Mainz, Dortmund and Liverpool and PSG and Liverpool, with both men flexing their respective brain muscles in an attempt to get one over on each other for over a decade.

History hasn’t been kind to Chelsea’s Tommy Tuch.

The Blues boss has won just two previous meetings against Klopp, but with Liverpool’s season continuing to de-rail in a spectacular fashion he’ll be confident ahead of Thursday’s trip.

Not only is pride at stake, but an upper hand in the relentless race for Champions League football next season.

So, will it be Klopp or Tuchel enjoying a celebratory German stein of beer on Thursday evening?

Over 1.5 Chelsea goals

Chelsea are still waiting to click in the final third under Tuchel, but their recent visits to Anfield have been pretty fruitful.

Remember that mad 5-3 at the back end of last season? Well, the Blues have scored in 10 of their last 11 visits to the red half of Merseyside and with Nathaniel Phillips and Ozan Kabak looking more than shaky in the Liverpool defence, Chelsea will get opportunities.

They’ve been pretty wasteful up front of late, but with Tuchel expected to deploy the pace of Timo Werner and possibly Christian Pulisic we think 6/4 is too good to turn down for Chelsea to bag twice.

Our Long Shot – Timo Werner last goalscorer – 15/2 with BetVictor

Timo Werner has been Timo slow-burner so far in blue.

The German international is still to find his peak form in west London, but the signs are there that he is warming to the task.

Werner’s runs in behind Liverpool’s new centre-back pairing will no doubt be of concern for Klopp, and we think it could be Timo time on Thursday.
