It’s the big one on Saturday – the 2021 Grand National at Aintree.
The eyes of the nation will be glued on the 40 runners as they head off at 17:15 but there’s also some cracking action to enjoy before the National, including two Grade 1 contests.
Read on to see our top Odds Pick for Aintree on Saturday that includes a huge 100/1 fancy in the Grand National that already has winning experience over those famous Aintree fences.
Our Top Odds Pick – My Drogo (15:25) – 15/8 at Paddy Power
My Drogo is a perfect three from three over obstacles and enhanced his reputation with an impressive performance in a Grade 2 contest at Kelso last month.
Despite giving weight to the field he ran out a comfortable winner that day and there looks set to be more to come stepping up in trip here.
With conditions to suit, we’re expecting a big run and victory would cement his place as the best novice hurdler in the UK right now.
Our Long Shot – Hogan’s Height (E/W) (17:15) – 100/1 at Betfair
Hogan’s Height looked a natural over the National fences to run out the 16-length winner of the Sefton Chase back in December 2019.
COVID then ended his Grand National assault last year but this year’s race has been his target for the season and he arrives here on the back of a spin over hurdles and a run in the Cross Country at last month’s Cheltenham Festival.
He has stamina questions to answer but he cruised through the race to win the Sefton and we know he has form over the National course.
With some bookies offering 100/1 and 6 places, he looks a tasty each-way punt.
