Friday brings us the third and final day of Chester’s May Festival, ending a cracking few days of racing action.
Today is all about the Chester Cup, and trainer Mark Johnston is saddling five runners as he looks to land the race one more following Making Miracles success in 2019.
After our 15/2 and 13/8 winners yesterday, we’re back with our top Odds Picks for Chester’s Friday card including a tasty 25/1 fancy in the Chester Cup.
Our Top Odds Pick – Armory (14:15) – 6/5 at 888sport
The Aidan O’Brien trained Armory looks the class horse in this field – he bagged Group 2 and Group 3 victories as a two-year-old and then followed that up with some decent efforts last year.
His best piece of form in 2020 was running Magical to within two lengths at the Curragh in the Irish Champions Stakes before going on to run a cracker in the Group 1 Cox Plate in Australia.
If he runs to that sort of level here, he’ll be far too good for his rivals this afternoon.
Our Long Shot – Reshoun (14:45) – 25/1 at bet365
Reshoun put in a superb effort to land the Marsh Cup at Newbury in July, cruising home at 14/1 under Jim Crowley.
He then ended the season with three below-par performances but he’s now just 2lbs above his Newbury winning mark and Andrea Atzeni is an eye-catching booking today.
Being owned by Dr. Marwan Koukash you can also assume that this race has been the target for Reshoun and he’ll be primed for a big run this afternoon.
